State-of-the-art design

This wonderful care home is built around a sheltered and sunny garden. It is designed to be a sociable home, with light airy rooms and stunning decor, and our ethos is centred upon compassionate, person-centred care.

Laid out over two easy-access floors, Shinfield View has somewhere for everyone to call their favourite place. Everything has been designed to aid our residents’ ease of movement and enjoyment of their surroundings. The first floor terrace allows access to the garden from both levels of the home, and the ground floor is centred around the social elements of the home, like the bar bistro, the cinema and our wonderful reception hall.

A safe place to enjoy the good life

A motivated, compassionate team who treat everyone as their own family is the foundation for an amazing care home.

  • All-Inclusive life: Residents choosing to move to Shinfield View are attracted to our all-inclusive package. One of most comprehensive fee packages around, it ensures that everything our residents need or want to enjoy a happy, healthy life is included in one, easy-to-understand weekly fee. It brings peace of mind to them and their families and bolsters the spirit of equality throughout the home.
  • Motivated staff, who love caring: It goes without saying that our home is beautifully designed and decorated – you can see for yourself in the galleries. What you can’t tell from the pictures is just how much our staff care and go above and beyond what’s expected of them, daily, to ensure that everyone who resides at Shinfield View has the best quality of life feels part of the Shinfield family. We are extremely proud of them all.

Meet some of the team

Shinfield View opened its doors to residents in 2016 and since then has risen to become one of the top care homes in England. Jodie Whatmore and her exceptional team have been awarded outstanding in all five categories of the CQC’s inspection, something that only a handful of homes have achieved. So let’s meet some of them.

Jodie

General Manager

My name is Jodie Whatmore. I feel so fortunate, honoured and passionate to be the Manager here at Shinfield View. I have worked in Health and Social Care for the past 10 years and have been here at Shinfield View for 3 years. Our residents are at the heart of everything that we do and I see everyone here as part of my extended family. I am very much looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that this role will present and to continue working with our fantastic team!

Nicola

Deputy Manager

My name is Nicola Orwin. I am very excited to be the Deputy Manager here at Shinfield View. I have worked at Shinfield View for over 4 years now in various roles and it really is a home from home for me. I am very passionate about ensuring our residents get the very best in their later years and I am very much looking forward to working alongside Jodie to ensure we continue to deliver the very best outstanding care.

Lucy

Administrator

My Name is Lucy Pritchard and I am the Administrator at Shinfield View. I had not worked in a care home previously. Me and my colleagues work together to create a fun, safe and enjoyable environment for the residents in our care. In addition to the residents in our care, I am also involved in liaising with the family members and visitors of the residents. The residents are fascinating people with a wonderful amount to offer and I have had the opportunity to really get to know them. I am so proud to work here.

Luke

Maintenance Manager

My name is Luke Franklin, I am the Maintenance Manager at Shinfield View, I have worked with Shinfield for the last 18 months and its the best decision I have made. My role has allowed me to experience so many wonderful things, not just with residents and their families it’s also my colleges I work with as well. When it’s your first day starting a new job, you feel lost and trying to find your feet. My colleges have made me feel part of the team, respectful and honest from the beginning, my role is very important to me and the home, the main things are keeping the home safe for visitors and Residents, but also the colleges i work with is just as important.

Yan

Head Chef

My Name is Yan Laver, and I am the Head Chef at Shinfield View. Food is my passion, and my responsibility is preparing high-quality delicious meals. Curiosity, desire to learn more and attention to detail builds up my enthusiasm and creates space for creativity. In my opinion, one of the marks of truly great chef is the ability to adjust their cooking to meet the needs of the diner owner and I always do when it is necessary, nothing is too much trouble here!

Laura

Events & Activities Manager

My name is Laura McSoley, and I have worked at Shinfield View since its opening. Over the last few years, I am so proud to say we have made such a difference to so many people’s lives. Every day is an opportunity for new experiences, putting smiles on faces, and really living life. It has been an amazing journey so far; our CQC inspection, filling the home, award ceremonies, and I am so excited for what is next to come!

Louise

Head Housekeeper

Louise has been the Housekeeping Manager for just under a year at Shinfield View but has been a part of the family for a long time! Louise proudly leads her fantastic team, instilling a positive attitude and passion every day. She works hard to make sure the residents have a beautiful and clean environment to live and thrive in.

Stephen

Health & Wellbeing Personal Trainer

My Name is Stephen Orwin, and I am thrilled to be a new team member at Shinfield View. I am so passionate about taking care of yourself. I have worked within falls prevention and reablement for a few years, and find it fascinating how well the human body can adapt regardless of age or impairment. Having worked in clinical, community & commercial settings of health and fitness I bring a wealth of knowledge which hopefully will be passed on to residents, staff and even families.

Using tech to improve our care

Being a leading care home means always looking at ways in which we can deliver better services and part of that is looking at how the advancement of technology can benefit our residents and their families.

Maintaining socialisation

Communication technology has come on leaps and bounds again in recent years, especially when it comes to staying in touch visually with our friends, family and colleagues. Our team are always looking at ways in which we can enhance, simplify and improve our communications and residents regularly enjoy some facetime with relatives and even enjoy a Zoom quiz with our sister homes around the country.

Keeping people in touch, always

Due to the events of 2020, we have taken great care to ensure that socialisation and visiting can continue and that things are able to carry on as normally as possible. Our care lodge, ‘Little Shinfield’ is the same luxury standard you’ll find inside the home, but is situated in our lovely gardens. It is self-cleaning and allows people the much-loved social time with their friends and family, during a period of social restriction.

Using tech to improve systems

Technology in our care home allows us to improve our already stringent processes and systems, meaning that less time is spent on admin and more is spent on care. Acoustic monitoring and pressure sensing are just two of the many ways in which we can now use technology to provide better care through prevention and planning. Speak to us to find out how else we are using tech to improve the lives of everyone at Shinfield View.

A central point in the community

Shinfield View sits overlooking the green in the village, next to a house which long ago belonged to Catherine of Aragon – you can now see her depicted in our logo and also in Aragon’s bar and bistro within the home.

Our residents have enjoyed rich lives, often deeply involved with their local communities, so enabling them to continue those traditions is very important to them. It may be as simple as waving to the school children as they pass each morning, or visiting the lawn bowls club on a sunny afternoon. Often we will go further afield, to a historic site, or a place of worship in one of the Shinfield fleet, but wherever we do and whatever we do, we always want our residents to continue to be and feel part of the wider community they have enjoyed for so long.
