Throughout Dementia Action week we shared stories of some of our lovely Shinfield View residents. The first picture above is Norma: When Norma was in her 20s she began her career as a milliner for Dickens and Jones on Bond Street in London where she started out as an apprentice, she went on from there to make very fancy bespoke hats for all sorts of occasions.
Norma got to travel and attend Paris fashion week, it was the highlight of the job!!
Throughout this week we will be sharing stories about the incredible people we have the privilege of looking after in our home in aid of Dementia action week, so stay tuned everyone
The second image is Bert! Bert was born and grew up in Plymouth with his mum, dad, and two sisters.
When Bert was in his early 20’s he went to Torquay where he met his wife Sheila who he said he met at a dance
He said he was the better dancer but would never tell her that
Bert was a lecturer at Reading University on Agricultural economics and said he loved his job!!
He now resides here at Shinfield View
1940’s vintage afternoon tea dance complete with old sweet shop and everyone’s favourite penny sweets!
These were the years most of our residents made their life long friendships and first fell in love, although most residents of that era say it was some of the toughest times they lived through it was also some of the best memories they have and they were having the time of their lives!!
Our residents love their weekly session of arts and crafts
A lovely treat for our residents, with a drink in the Aragon Bar!
